Building Efficiency

Buildings are responsible for 66% of the electric energy used in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. This situation represents a tremendous opportunity to transform how the United States designs, builds, remodels, and operates buildings. By improving the energy efficiency of buildings, the United States reduces its vulnerability to energy supply disruptions, energy price spikes, and constraints on the nation’s electricity infrastructure.

Areas of EERC Expertise

The EERC has put its own research to good use to achieve environmentally friendly design in its recent "green" building expansion and renovation. A significant number of the Center's contracts involve research on renewable energy fuels, products, and technologies.
