Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer

The VG PQ ExCell ICP-MS is a quadrapole mass spectrometer equipped with a 27-MHz ICP radio frequency (RF) generator. The sample introduction system comprises an inert Peltier-stabilized spray chamber and standard quartz torch, with the PlasmaScreen torch option to reduce argon-based interferences and background for easily ionized elements. It is also equipped with collision cell technology (CCT) to attenuate polyatomic interference ions, which allows for parts per trillion (ppt) analysis of As, Fe, and Se, which are typically affected by polyatomic interferences in mass spectrometry.

This technique provides high throughput for multielement trace analyses and isotope ratio studies.

Sample types include the following:
  • Drinking water
  • Wastewater
  • Coal
  • Biomass
  • Fly ash
  • Soils
  • Sediments

Typical detection limits for water analysis are given in the chart below.
