Integrated Bench-Scale Gasifier

The integrated bench-scale gasifier (IBG) is a small batch reactor, with a charge capacity of 70 g of solids. Its design allows real-time observations of reaction dynamics and generation of small, inexpensive samples of solids, liquids, and gases under pressures and temperatures of 200 psig and 850°C, respectively. Feed gas combinations tested to date include N2, H2, and steam. Oxidizing atmospheres can also be tested.

Solids are fed and withdrawn from the system in a batchwise fashion. Liquids are collected in condensation traps, and the gas is sampled by bags for later gas chromatography (GC) analysis or online for analysis by GC/Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR).

The IBG has been used in catalytic reaction studies and also trace element evolution in gasification studies.
