Mr. Edward N. Steadman
Senior Research Advisor

Mr. Edward N. Steadman is a Senior Research Advisor at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), where he is responsible for developing, managing, and marketing programs and projects focused on studying the environmental effects of natural resource exploitation and power production and deploying the technologies to resolve related issues. He currently serves as the Program Manager for the Plains CO 2 Reduction (PCOR) Partnership, one of seven regional partnerships funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership Program to assess the technical and economic feasibility of capturing and storing (sequestering) CO 2 emissions from stationary sources in the northern Great Plains and adjacent area. Under this program, Mr. Steadman leads a multidisciplinary team of researchers working on a carbon sequestration project in which detailed inventories of CO 2 sources, geologic and terrestrial sinks, and sequestration infrastructure have been completed; CO 2 capture and separation technologies have been identified; monitoring, verification, and accounting technologies and permitting requirements have been investigated; and the most promising opportunities for carbon sequestration in nine states and four Canadian provinces have been identified. Throughout the course of this three-phase, multiyear, multimillion-dollar program, Mr. Steadman has successfully increased sponsorship of and participation in the program, which has more than 80 partners to date, representing a diverse cross section of CO 2 producers, end users, environmental groups, and regulators.

Mr. Steadman's principal areas of interest and expertise include carbon sequestration, chemical transformations during coal combustion, and materials science. He holds an M.A. degree in Geology from the University of North Dakota and a B.S. degree in Geology from the University of Pennsylvania-Edinboro. In addition, he has authored or coauthored over 160 publications and given presentations on a variety of topics to audiences throughout the United States and around the world.
