Dr. Steven B. Hawthorne is a Senior Research Manager of Environmental Chemistry at the EERC, where he is responsible for the development and implementation of sampling and mass spectral analysis methods for organic species in air, synfuels, wastewater, and solids. He received his Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Colorado and his M.S. degree in Analytical Chemistry and his B.S. degree in Chemistry, both from South Dakota State University.

Dr. Hawthorne's principal areas of interest and expertise include analytical supercritical fluid extraction and environmental chemistry and analysis. These investigations have resulted in over 120 peer-reviewed publications and the presentation of over 150 invited lectures.
