Heat & Power Workshop Summary

The workshop focused on emerging technologies in biomass for heat and power. During this 1-day workshop at the EERC's new facility, participants learned about the different types of biomass and how they provide fuel resource opportunities, discussed new technology, and developed opportunities for biomass utilization in their business or community. Attendees also learned about energy solutions, economic development opportunities, partnership advantages, and the cost savings of biomass.

Biomass is a renewable and sustainable resource for energy, transportation fuels, and chemical feedstock production. Utility- and industrial-scale energy applications are finding valuable biomass resources consisting of agricultural residues like corn stover, wood residues, municipal biosolids, animal manure, and energy crops. Biomass is the largest and most promising sustainable and renewable energy resource, with true global applications.

Governor John Hoeven addressed the attendees of the GEC meeting and Biomass Workshop during a luncheon in the main lobby of the new building. Guests also had the opportunity to tour the EERC's pilot plant facilities with the governor and see a demonstration of the mobile renewable energy power plant.
