Open House for EERC's New Building Addition Summary

More than 300 people received their first look at the EERC's new 47,000-square-foot building addition during the open house.

"We are extremely pleased with the support of those who turned out to see the finished product of our new facilities," said EERC Director Gerald Groenewold. "The growth at the EERC is a reflection of the talent and commitment of our incredible employees who provide the best product for the highest-quality clients all over the world, in turn, providing tremendous opportunities for economic development in this region."

Ground was broken July 30, 2002, for the $8 million expansion and renovation project, which enhances the EERC's existing 169,000-square-foot facilities on the southeast corner of campus. The new facilities include two 3-story buildings that will accommodate 90 additional staff and meeting rooms to accommodate more than 300 people. The visitors also were able to see the environmentally friendly aspects of the building.

In addition to the overall construction project, some of the EERC's current facilities will get a facelift, including interior remodeling, mechanical replacements, and new windows, which will follow the completion of the new building. An official dedication of the expansion and renovation project will be held in the summer of 2004.

Tours were given from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2003. Tour guides met visitors at the front desk and took groups through the building, stopping at stations to have various important programs or functions included in the EERC facilities explained. The tour route consisted of the following:

  1. EERC display wall in Building A
  2. EERC people wall
  3. Visitors' office
  4. Green building display
  5. First-floor west
  6. Second-floor balcony
  7. Second-floor geothermal room
