David O'Connor, Manager, Combustion/Performance, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)/Symposium on Western Fuels Technical Coordinator. David O'Connor is the Manager of Combustion/Performance at EPRI, a science and technology research consortium formed to serve the energy industry by providing science- and technology-based solutions through a far-reaching program of scientific research, technology development, and product implementation. At EPRI, Mr. O'Connor manages fundamental research and engineering applications as well as software developments. He has been with the organization for 19 years. Prior to his tenure at EPRI, he worked at Bechtel.
Gerald Groenewold, Director, EERC. Since 1987, Gerald Groenewold has served as the Director of the EERC, where he leads a multidisciplinary science and engineering research team focused on the development, demonstration, and commercialization of energy and environmental technologies, including advanced power and energy systems; energy conversion system optimization; environmental control technologies (particulates, air toxic metals, SOx, NOx, and SO2), hydrogen production and distribution, renewable energy, environmental chemistry, energy resources (oil, gas, and coal), waste management and remediation, and water management.

Carl Bauer, Director, U.S. Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). As Director of NETL, Carl Bauer oversees implementation of R&D to resolve national energy and environmental challenges, including technologies for advanced coal-fueled power generation and hydrogen production, carbon sequestration, environmental control for the existing fleet of fossil steam plants, and improving the efficiency and environmental quality of domestic oil and natural gas exploration, production, and processing. Mr. Bauer has more than 30 years of experience in technical and business management in both the public and private sectors.
