Facilities for Hydrogen
The EERC has a unique combination of existing programs and facilities that directly support hydrogen production and fuel cell technology development. Programs at the EERC that directly support hydrogen and fuel cell development include the following:
  • Centers for Renewable Energy and Biomass Utilization
  • Coal Utilization Technologies Center
  • National Alternative Fuels Center
  • Plains Organization for Wind Energy Resources® (POWER®)
  • Center for Air Toxic Metals® (CATM®)
The EERC has over 245,000 square feet of office, laboratory, and demonstration facilities including the following related to hydrogen and fuel cell development:
  • Preparation of feedstocks that produce hydrogen from both fossil and renewable sources as well as feedstock characterization
  • Laboratories for the development of fuel cells
  • Analytical laboratories that test the ability of various materials to perform in the production and use of hydrogen as well as methods of joining materials and producing the next generation of materials
  • Multiple state-of-the art demonstration facilities that enable next-generation hydrogen production, purification, and utilization technologies
  • Three mobile gasification systems demonstrating the production of synthetic fuels from various biomass and coal sources
  • Extensive field testing capabilities
